Harrington Sound Road Hamilton Parish Temporary Road Closure For BELCO Trench Works – Phase II

MONDAY MARCH 1ST, 2021 – MONDAY MARCH 8TH, 2021 

The Ministry of Public Works wishes to inform motorists that the ongoing Harrington Sound Road trenching project in Hamilton Parish will require a full road closure to commence with Phase II (Harrington Sound Road from Devil’s Hole Hill to Middle Road in Flatts).

Botanical Gardens to Close Early on Monday Afternoon

The Department of Parks wishes to advise the public that the Botanical Gardens will be closed to the public on Monday, 22 February, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. 

The Department of Parks will use the park’s closure as an opportunity to carry out pest control measures in the Botanical Gardens.

Parks staff will be stationed at each entry point into the garden to control access to the park.

COVID-19 Daily Release 19 February 2021

Good day.

The Ministry of Health received 337 test results since the last update, and none were positive for COVID-19.

Additionally, since the last update, there were no recoveries.

There are currently eight active cases, of which;

·  Seven are under public health monitoring and;

·  One is in the hospital, with none in critical care.

Since March 2020, Bermuda has recorded 699 total confirmed cases of COVID-19; out of those, 679 persons have recovered, and 12 persons have sadly succumbed to COVID-19.

COVID-19 Daily Release 18 February 2021

Good day.

The Ministry of Health received 337 test results since the last update, and two were positive for COVID-19. The first new case is a non-resident who arrived on Delta DL 617 from New York on 12 February and tested positive on their day four test. The second new case is a non-resident who arrived on Jet Blue B62231 from New York on 12 February and tested positive on their day four test

Additionally, since the last update, there were no recoveries.

Tribe Road No. 4b Access to Elbow Beach Closed

The Ministry of Public Works wishes to remind the public that using the Elbow Beach public staircase from Tribe Road No 4b is currently prohibited. 

Use of the existing staircase poses a risk to public safety. The previously erected signs and barriers to prevent public access were unlawfully removed. The Ministry can advise that the signs and barriers have been reinstated.  

Access to the staircase will remain closed until construction works are complete in the coming months.

Minister of Education- Bermuda College Promise

Good Morning and Welcome,

I am pleased to have Bermuda College Vice President Dr Phyllis Curtis-Tweed and BermudaCollege student Alex Pacheco, join me at today’s press conference. In a few moments, they will both share information regarding the Bermuda Government’s College Promise Programme.

The Ministry of Health received 543 test results since the last update, and two were positive for COVID-19. One of the new cases is a resident who arrived on BA 2233 from London on 11 February and tested positive on their day 4 test. The second new case is a non-resident who arrived on Jet Blue B62231 from New York on 6 February and tested positive on their day 8 test

Additionally, since the last update, there were no recoveries.

Bermuda Monetary Authority Hosts Fifteenth Meeting of Financial Policy Council

HAMILTON, BERMUDA – The Financial Policy Council (FPC) held its fifteenth meeting on 3 December 2020 via teleconference. All members were able to participate on the call.

The meeting focused on pathways to sustainable growth in Bermuda, discussing both risks and opportunities emerging from the new economic conditions created domestically and globally by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Governor Visits Warwick Camp

The Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Bermuda Regiment, Ms Rena Lalgie, was pleased to visit Warwick Camp yesterday (Feb. 15), afternoon as the Royal Bermuda Regiment (RBR) began the first of two intensive recruitment camp training programmes for their newest recruits.  

During the visit, the Governor toured the facility with the Commanding Officer of the Royal Bermuda Regiment, Lt Col Benjamin Beasley BEM, and observed the courses taking place as part of the two week training camp.

Good Evening Bermuda,

Tonight I am joined by the Minister of Health, the Hon. Kim Wilson, who will provide you with an update on the latest vaccination statistics, rule changes for immunized persons, and further updates from her Ministry. 

Following the minister of Health, I will update the country on the COVID-19 regulations approved by the Cabinet earlier today which will be in effect for the next two weeks, matters surrounding Bermuda’s tourism economy, and preview the House of Assembly which resumes on Friday.

BUS Disruptions update

Notice to the Public- Update: The public is advised that discussions are continuing between the Department of Public Transportation (DPT) Management and the Bermuda Public Services Union (BPSU).Transportation for school students will not be impacted as arrangements are already in process through contractual arrangements with the Bermuda Minibus Association.   Again, the Department apologises for any inconveniences caused by the disruption.

Interruption of Public Bus Service

The Department of Public Transportation (DPT) advises the public that there is an interruption in the public bus service this morning due to industrial action taken by the Supervisors. 

The Bermuda Public Services Union and the Supervisors are currently in discussion with Management of DPT. 

The Department apologies for any inconveniences caused by the disruption. An update will be provided before noon today.
