“This year’s STEAM Academy will be a captivating circus-themed adventure, where P4-M1 students will have the opportunity to design and build their very own circus games using a wide array of exciting tools and technologies such as woodwork, circuitry, 3D printing, and laser engraving and more,” said Mr. Neville Zuill, Lead Teacher of the 2023 STEAM Academy.

“Good afternoon and thank you for joining me.

Today, I am pleased to have with me Members of the National Sports Centre Board of Trustees

As we stand here today, undoubtedly, the National Sport Centre facility has become a focal point for sports development and sports excellence over the years.

Mr. Speaker, in accordance with section 28 of the Bermuda Monetary Authority Act 1969, I am pleased to table the Bermuda Monetary Authority Annual Report 2022 (the “Report”).

Mr. Speaker, on Monday, May 22nd, 2023 I, along with the Honourable Premier, the Hon. E. David Burt, JP, MP, Deputy Speaker the Hon. Derrick V. Burgess, JP, MP, Mrs. Renee Ming, JP, MP the Member of Parliament for Constituency 1 and the Marina owner Mr. Mark Soares attended the celebratory grand opening for the new St. Georges Marina facility on Ordinance Island which provides a haven for numerous superyacht class vessels, which are larger than standard yachts and are typically serviced by highly-skilled, highly-paid crew members.

This morning I rise before this Honourable House to share information about the recent graduation events at Bermuda College and to provide details of this inimitable Class of 2023.

Good morning Mr. Speaker,

I am pleased to rise today to provide to the Members of this Honourable House an overview of the Employment (Minimum Hourly Wage) Order 2023 (the “Order”) and the Employment (Minimum Hourly Wage Entitlement) Regulations 2023 (the “Regulations”) that have been tabled in this Honorable House.

Mr. Speaker, I rise today to express my deep concern and condemnation of the recently reported attacks on bus operators in Bermuda. These senseless acts of violence have no place in our society and will not be tolerated. We stand in solidarity with our bus operators and their families during this difficult time and will do everything in our power to ensure that justice is served.

“We must prepare for this hurricane season, and ensure our collective safety and resilience,” said Minister of National Security Michael Weeks ahead of the official start of the Atlantic hurricane season on Thursday, 1 June.

 The Atlantic hurricane season begins on 1 June and ends on 30 November. This year, the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has predicted a 40 percent chance of a near-normal season and a 30 percent chance of a below-normal season.

“In keeping with the Government’s Employment Strategy of increasing local training opportunities and promoting pathways to securing employment, I am pleased to announce that the Department of Workforce Development recently concluded a Technical Cleaning Certification course for thirteen local Bermudians,” said the Minister of Economy and Labour, Jason Hayward. 

The Minister of Economy and Labour, the Hon. Jason Hayward, JP, MP, represented Bermuda at the 12th ILO Meeting of Caribbean Ministers of Labour in Guyana ahead of the 111th International Labour Conference in Geneva next month.

Held from May 23 – 25, the meeting of Ministers, which includes the participation of Ministers of Labour and senior officials from thirteen ILO member States and nine non-metropolitan territories in the English and Dutch-speaking Caribbean as well as representatives from regional worker’s organizations and employer’s organizations, was last held in 2019.

The Economic Development Department (EDD) is pleased to open applications for the highly anticipated second annual global FinTech Education Programme. This transformative initiative is scheduled from 12 June to 14 July.

Ahead of the Bermuda Day holiday tomorrow, the Ministry of National Security notes that several events and activities will take place.

The Minister of National Security, Michael Weeks, has issued a video message of public safety encouraging residents to be responsible during this festive period.

The Ministry wishes everyone a safe holiday weekend.

His Majesty King Charles III conveyed a message to Premier David Burt and the people of Bermuda on the occasion of Bermuda Day 2023. 

“I extend my warmest congratulations to your Premier, and the people of Bermuda as it marks its national day. I look forward to the continuing the warm friendship, and the strong and close partnership that we share, working together for prosperity, democracy and peace as we face these challenging times.

 

The Minister of Home Affairs, the Hon. Walter Roban, JP, MP, represented Bermuda at the 6th UK Overseas Territories and Crown Dependencies (UKOT/CD) Environment Ministers’ Council. 

Held virtually on 18 May, the meeting included 31 environment ministers or equivalent representatives from UKOT/CD discussing critical environmental matters. 

Madam President, anyone who knows me on a personal level knows that Bermuda Day is absolutely my favourite holiday of the year. For years, I’ve kept to the tradition of watching the runners in the half-marathon derby speed past; enthusiastically enjoying t the parade route and stopping along the way to catch up with friends and family; and enjoying the sights and sounds of the many dance groups, gombey troupes, floats, majorettes, music trucks and walking groups that the Bermuda Day Parade has to offer.
