Consultation Launched on Addressing the Challenge of an Ageing Population
The public will recall the September 2022 release of the position paper on Addressing the Challenge of an Ageing Population in Bermuda, highlighting this demographic shift’s impact on our economy.
To help address this challenge, the Government is creating a Strategic Policy Paper on Expanding the Working Population of Bermuda. It will contain strategic initiatives for implementation aimed at improving and expanding the economy and increasing the working population.

Public Services Interruption – Union Meeting
The public is advised that due to a Bermuda Industrial Union (BIU) full membership meeting taking place tomorrow, January 31, from 10.30a.m. – 12.30p.m., there will be an interruption in public services.
Specifically, there will be no bus or ferry services during this period. Other delayed services include trash collection, parks, postal delivery and other services.
All disrupted services will resume following the conclusion of the BIU meeting.

Ministry Host Meeting to Discuss Air Service Development

Premier and Minister of Tourism Meet St. Regis Owners
“The St. Regis Hotel is a valuable addition to Bermuda’s tourism product and the Government enjoys a constructive working relationship with the owners,” said the Minister of Tourism, Vance Campbell following a meeting with the hotel’s owners and a representative of their proposed casino operator on Friday.
Minister Campbell said, “The St. Regis team had met earlier that day with the Bermuda Gaming Commission and in addition to an overview of that discussion, it was an opportunity to hear from them on the hotel’s operations and some additional thoughts on the coming season.”
Budget Statement presented February 17, 2023
In support of the Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure 2023 – 2024, the Premier and Minister of Finance, the Hon. E. David Burt, JP, MP, will present the Budget Statement in the House of Assembly (Veritas Place) on Friday, February 17th, 2023, at 10 am.
“The dedicated Ministry of Finance team and I have been working on the 2023-2024 Budget for several months,” said the Premier and Minister of Finance. “This Budget will outline our continuing path towards economic recovery and focus on our ongoing commitment to providing relief to the hard-working people of Bermuda.”

Sports Minister attends World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Forum
The Minister of Youth, Culture and Sport, Sen. the Hon. Owen K. Darrell, JP, is currently in Kingston Jamaica, representing Bermuda at the second annual World Anti-Doping Agency(WADA) Forum.
Taking place from January 26– 27, Minister Darrell joins other Sports Ministers in the Caribbean region to discuss such matters as: establishing a strong legal framework for anti-doping; further developing and implementing effective testing and education programs; and collaborating for protecting clean athletes and the integrity of sports.

COH Provided a Draft a Week Before the Release and Given Every Opportunity to Collaborate
“I am incredibly disappointed that the Corporation of Hamilton (COH) opted to share grievances publicly instead of picking up the telephone or sending an email. Especially as the Department of Planning (Planning) team went to great lengths to keep them involved in the process”, said the Minister of Home Affairs, Walter Roban, in reading today’s Royal Gazette article. “Planning communicated consistently and made them aware that they were open to dialogue, to contact them with any questions and that they were happy to meet.”

Government Supports Bermuda Netball Association
Good morning members of the media,
The public may recall last November that the Bermuda Netball Association (BNA) expressed health and safety concerns over the state of the government-owned netball courts at Bernard’s Park. Due to weather and frequent use, the asphalt surface of the courts had become dangerously eroded.
As a result, a decision was made in December to temporarily close the courts until the Department of Youth and Sports could complete the necessary repairs.

Customs Department to Mark International Customs Day 2023 Through a Series of Island-Wide Events
“The Customs Department continues to play an important role in the Bermuda economy by meeting its mission of ‘Protecting Bermuda’s Border and Promoting Economic Development,” said Lucinda Pearman, the Collector of Customs.
Mrs Pearman’s message comes as the Customs Department prepares to carry out a series of events this week in recognition of International Customs Day 2023, which will be observed on Thursday, 26 January.
Mrs Pearman added: “We are committed to the continued economic development of the Island and protecting Bermuda’s borders.”

“I am pleased to advise that Bermuda has met our coronavirus vaccination goal to have a third of our eligible population receiving their 2nd and 3rd booster,” said Minister of Health, Kim Wilson, JP, MP. “This is good news, as vaccinations are the best way to fight the coronavirus, protect our community and save lives.”
