Ministry of Education Meets with the Bermuda Union of Teachers

The Ministry of Education has responded this evening following the statement issued by the Bermuda Union of Teachers today (Friday, 7th January 2022).

The Ministry confirms that it has met with the BUT today to discuss Bermuda’s public schools’ reopening and is aware of the BUT’s concerns shared in their press statement today.

The BUT has raised several points that the Ministry explained and clarified with all parties agreeing that the priority is to ensure safe resumption of services to students.

Update on Department of Youth Sport & Recreation After School Programme and After School Clubs

The Department of Youth, Sport and Recreation (DYSR) advises parents and guardians that there will be a delay in the After School Programme and After School Club services due to Covid-19 related staff shortages and pending test results. 

The Department is doing everything possible to ensure DYSR services can resume in full on Monday, 10 January 2022. The Department will provide a further update over the weekend.

COVID-19 Update 6 January 2022

Since the last update, the Ministry of Health received 4,247 test results and 255 were positive for the coronavirus.

These results are from testing completed on:

  • Sunday, January 2: 75 positive out of 1915 results (3.9% positivity)
  • Monday, January 3: 180 positive out of 2332 results (7.7% positivity)

The Ministry notes that 125 of the new cases are classified as imported with history of travel in the previous 14 days.

The additional 130 new cases are classified as either local transmission (10) or under investigation (120).

In recognition of the 15th Bermuda Biennial, the Bermuda National Gallery (BNG) is inviting writers to submit poetry for the first time.
