COVID-19 Briefing Premier’s Remarks 30 September 2021

Good afternoon Bermuda.

I begin this afternoon by offering my heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of all the persons we have lost since our briefing last week. The number of deaths we are seeing on our island during this outbreak of the Delta Variant is a tragedy for our entire country but especially for those who have lost persons whom they love and care about.

COVID-19 Briefing the Minister of Health’s Remarks 30 September 2021

Good afternoon.

Yesterday I reported that Bermuda had experienced ten more coronavirus-related deaths. I wish to extend heartfelt condolences to the families and friends who have recently lost a loved one due to COVID-19 related illnesses. 

You are in my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. I am praying for those currently in hospital with COVID-19 related illnesses. I sincerely hope that they all recover soon.

Hurricane Sam Update Minister of National Security’s Remarks

The Minister of National Security, Renee Ming advised today that the Emergency Measures Organisation (EMO) continues to monitor the forecast track of Hurricane Sam.   

Yesterday (Sept. 29) Minister Ming chaired an EMO meeting, where all partner agencies confirmed that they were storm ready and prepared to mobislise should the need arise.

PRODUCT RECALL: Boppy Newborn Loungers

 Under the Consumer Protection Act 1999, section 23 (1) a, b, c, Consumer Affairs, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and the Boppy Company are putting a recall of Boppy Newborn Loungers into effect.

THE RECALL:

The Newborn Loungers were sold at two local stores and online from Pottery Barn Kids, Target, Walmart and Amazon.com, among others. The product is recalled due to infant deaths and suffocation risks.

COVID-19 Update 29 September 2021

“I am sad to report today that Bermuda has experienced ten more coronavirus-related deaths,” said Minister of Health, Kim Wilson, JP, MP. “I extend heartfelt condolences to the families and friends who recently lost a loved one.”

Since the last update, the Ministry of Health received 3721 test results, and 99 were positive for the coronavirus, giving a test positivity rate of 2.7%.

These results are from testing done on:

▪          Sunday: 22 positive out of 1424 results (1.5% positivity)

▪          Monday: 77 positive out of 2297 results (3.2% positivity)

Ministry of Transport: Bus Service Has Resumed

This afternoon, the Ministry of Transport confirmed that the bus service has resumed at 1 p.m. and all bus routes are currently being serviced.

Minister of Transport, the Hon. Lawrence Scott, JP, MP, said, “We are pleased that bus and ferry service has resumed.  We are grateful to the  public for their patience and acknowledge residents who have stepped in to help others with transportation over the past ten days.”
